Kilwa – meaning ‘Place of Fish’ – is the collective name given to three

different areas on the Tanzanian coast: Kilwa Kisiwani, Kilwa Kivinje and

Kilwa Masoko. Visitors come here to explore UNESCO-listed ruins that tell

the story of centuries of coastal history. While,

The Selous Game Reserve has an area of more than 50,000 square kilometers making it the world’s largest conserved area excluding Polar Regions. Selous is three times bigger than the Serengeti National Park. The reserve is a World Heritage Site and covers almost 6% of Tanzania’s land.

The Selous takes its name from the famous hunter and conservationist Frederick Courteney Selous who was killed in action in WW1 within the now Selous. His grave lies close to the Beho Beho Hills and can be seen on a game drive in that area


DAY 1. Dar es salaam to Kilwa

Pick up from Dar es salaam International Airport or at your Hotel in Dar es salaam and transfer to Kliwa passing through Mbagara, Kibiti and heading to Kilwa. When arriving in Kilwa you will stay at Kilwa Beach Lodge. Spend time by doing some refreshment on the shore.

DAY 2. Kilwa activities

Visit the islands & towns of Kilwa with their historical sites. Kilwa Kisiwani,

Songo Mnara with 14th Century arab ruins & the town of Kilwa Kivinje

known more for its recent historical sites during german colonization.we

can arrange for you to see a variety of historical sites within the Kilwa area.

By far the most important is the visit to Kilwa Kisiwani island which has the

largest collection of ruins to be seen. We can arrange a trip for you by

power boat or by dhow to visit Kilwa Kisiwani. Kilwa Kivinje can also be

visited for some more interesting historical sites by vehicle. A longer trip to

Songo Mnara island will round off all the major historical sites to visit. In the

evening you will be back to your Hotel for cover night

Day 3. Kilwa to Selous

Morning after breakfast you will be transferred to Selous Game Reserve. Once you arrive, you will have lunch, then go on an evening boat safari. Your dinner and overnight camping will be at Selous Kinga Lodge.

Day 4. Full day game drive in Selous

On this day, you will leave early in the morning with a packed breakfast and

picnic lunch to enjoy a full day game drive in the largest game reserve in

Africa. Each safari will cover different areas of the park, so you’ll be able to

enjoy different vegetation and the animals they support there. Your dinner

and overnight camping will be at Selous Kinga Lodge.

Day 5. Game drive and departure to Dar es salaam

On this day, early in the morning you will go for game drive from 6.00 am to 10.00 am then back to the Hotel for breakfast. After breakfast prepare for a trip to Dar es salaam as this mark the end of your package.
